I had been away on a three-night business trip, and was exhausted, taking a taxi back to our house. When I got home, the lights were out. No one was home. I sighed audibly.

“Long day?” the taxi driver said.

“Yeaaah,” was all I said as I let out a breath. I paid him and collected my belongings. I was tired of being lonely in my marriage. I didn’t know where he was. He knew I was coming home.

I went in and switched all the lights on. I unpacked my bag while watching a bit of television. I finally crawled into bed around midnight, leaving the hall light on. By the time I woke up to use the bathroom at 2am, I realised the hallway light was off. Patrick was home.
